The mission of the EuPA Biobank Initiative is to provide a forum and a knowledge platform to the EuPA community regarding best biobanking practices for a range of different applications and situations, such as setting up your own biobank or sample collection, evaluating the quality of a sample collections you intend to use in your research, or tools for finding and identifying sample collections appropriate as validation cohorts. These goals will be achieved primarily by acting as a link between the extensive experiences collected by the EuPA community, and the European and international biobanking organizations, clinical health care biobankers, patient advocacy groups, and the biotech and pharma industry. The specific impact of providing a forum and easy access to this type of information to the EuPA community has the potential of improving the quality of future sample collections and biobanks, the quality of the research produced from these samples collections, as well as the output and productivity from existing biobanks. Through joint efforts, the EuPA Biobank Initiative can thereby contribute to moving biomedical proteomics research beyond basic findings and mere publications, into clinical practice.
